Today, Norbertine Social Development Trust works in 78 villages of Chickmagalur District, Karnataka and leads poor people towards self-reliance, which is the end result of all the activities we design and implement in the district of Chickmagalur.
Preferential option for the poor needs to be the main concern of any underdeveloped country where above 70% of the people live without having two meals a day. The responsibility of empowering the poor towards a sustainable life is not only the responsibility of government alone but also of every fellow human being. Sneha Welfare Society (SWS) is a social initiative from the Canonry of Mananthavady Norbertines to cater the social needs of the poor and tribal people living in and around the Priory. The centre offers educational and welfare programs aimed at transformation and self sustainability of the daily working classes of the rural poor people. Sneha organizes awareness programs, self help groups, housing assistance, income generating initiatives, educational assistance, women empowerment and de-addiction camps etc., to help the poor people to unite themselves for the sustainable development of their family and community.
It was a long cherished dream of the Mananthavady Norbertines to have a house in the southern part of kerala. After a years’ long search and great effort we have succeeded in purchasing a new building at Athani, Eranakulam. The house is situated between Alua and Angamali in the close vicinity of NH 47 and 3 km away from the international airport. ECHO JEEVANA is a centre established for the rehabilitation of the children in conflict with law and children who need care and protection. The inauguration and the blessing of the new centre were held on 18th June 2011. The house was blessed by the Bp. Sebastian Adayanthrath, the Auxilary Bishop of Eranakulam- Angamali diocese and the centre was inaugurated by Sri Anwar Sadat, the M L A of Alua Constituency. The centre is surrounded by so many catholic parishes. On Sundays the fathers engage themselves in pastoral ministries in the neighbouring parishes, namely Athani, Chengamanadu, Akaparambu and extend pastoral assistance to the neighbouring parishes on demand. The community consists of Fr. Shaju Vadakkumkara (Superior), Fr Siby Thadathil (Director) and two novices doing regency.
